#TravelTuesday | Via Rail is family-budget-friendly

#TravelTuesday tip:  Via Rail is offering 1/2 price tickets to kids this summer.   Toddlers under 2 years of age travel free. Children 2–11 travel at half price.

Disclosure: I haven't actually experienced Via Rail travel myself - but know families who take it every summer and they rave at how family-friendly it is.  And at half price it's worth considering n'est pas?

And no, this isn't sponsored by Via (sadly) but I'm thinking travel where you don't have to search out a roadside potty or strap kids into car seats might really be a more human way to travel...

I'm actually taking my 2 kids (age 6 and 7-1/2) on the train tomorrow (11 hours on the train from Montreal to Sarnia). It beats driving solo and they are so excited! We did the same trip last summer (first train trip) and they had a blast. They could walk around, the snack trolley passed by regularly, the staff are very nice, and they could watch movies, play games, etc. I loved it because I could work (free wifi on Via trains!)and I got to our destination much more calm and relaxed than I would have if I had driven. Unfortunately, the train is pretty expensive if there are no good deals, but half price for kids does help. We are busy packing snacks, movies, iPods, and the ds in preparation!
