Thank blog for cell phones

What would a modern mom do without a cell phone? Not that I use it very often mind you. I have an out-going only policy about my cell phone. I'll call you - don't call me.

'Cause quite honestly - I don't have the sort of life where I need to be reached 24/7. There is no emergency brain surgery waiting for me to perform.

Only 3 or 4 "people" know my cell phone number...my prince, my mom, Thing 1 & Thing 2's school, and wherever Thing 1 & Thing 2 may be on a specific day when I am not with them (i.e. I'll leave it with a mom for a playdate, camp, babysitter). My number is on a need-to-know-basis.

Anywho...the point is cell phones are great devices for parents. It makes us reachable - on our own terms. So here is the question for the day...how often do you use YOUR cell phone?

The story behind this story is that my cell phone rang today (good Ghandi! what's that sound? - oh it's my pocket.) - Camp was calling to tell me Thing 2 had a sore tummy. So, as a good mom - with a good flexible job - I picked said sore-tummied-child-up.

I use my cell phone almost everyday. Partly becuase it is convenient and partly because I am on a bit of work to rule with my home phone company - BELL - I have removed all extra services like call answer, call display etc. from my home phone (they recently made me really mad) and have it now only to support my home alarm system and the remote need for someone to dial 911 from my house. If someone wants to leave me a message they have to know my cell number.

I love my cell phone! Texting is also a great feature that I use quite a bit!

I only got a cell phone when I was about 8 months pregnant with my first child, which was just over 6 years ago. My husband, who loves to tell stories of his first, huge, cell phone was eager to buy me one. I felt that I was a bit slow to enter the world of cell phone users, and happy to be that way. I had the same "I'll call you - don't call me" practice for a while; however, I have noticed that my cell phone use is slowly increasing (if only I heard it ringing...I miss so many calls!). I think our culture is changing and I'm cool with that. I want to adapt to change and hope that when my kids are teens I won't be stuck behaving the way I thought my parents should when I was a teen but instead behaving, within limits, the way I want to behave when I have teens. Having, and using a cell phone as well as texting is just the way it rolls these days (as Thing 2 might say, right?). I do like the convenience of instant messaging...just wish I could type faster on my phone with my thumbs. I only have a cell phone...I'm a little slow to enter the world of smart phones. Hmmm...might be time to suggest to hubby my next gift?!

I now have a hand-me-down blackberry and am loving getting e-mails wherever I am.

So I don't answer phone calls but will answer e-mails.

I use my phone ALL the time! I have this amazing plan from Tracfone called Straighttalk where I get 1000 minutes and texts for only $30, and i got my kids the plan too so that we can al;ways keep in touch, especially during the summer. Its the best!
