Snacks a go-go


Driving by the Ontario Science Centre was a clear indication that March Break destinations are BUSY. Forget waiting in line for tickets...seems like families are waiting in lines for parking spots before they even get near the ticket wicket!

Parent Club has put together a list of snacks a go-go...when you are waiting in line -- and thus, not actually a go-going anywhere.


      water -- always have water with you

  • dry cereal (fruit loops are a treat and, in some houses, only for snacks never for breakfast)

  • granola bars, cereal bars, protein bars

  • bagel quarters (with butter, jam, nutella)

  • fish crackers, square crackers, round crackers -- any shape you like


  • fruit to go (which actually, is in fact, 100% fruit)

  • bananas

  • cut fruit in an air-tight container (cut apples have lasted 'till lunch with no brown spots)


  • melody of carrots & 'cukes (I saw a Mom whip out a huge bag of cut veggies one hot summer day - the kids loved it)

  • snap peas


  • popcorn, rice crackers

  • cookies

  • pretzels


The best fast food -- is the food you already have in your bag!

Be careful with protein bars, they are generally not recommended for kids because you need to drink soooo much water with them to allow your system to process them properly...make sure you know what they are and if they are apporpriate for children.

My kids love a good roll-up - soft tortilla shell (we use whole wheat) with nutella, peanut butter, cream cheese or cheeze whiz inside, easy to make, and easy to eat...and no crumbs!!! they are also good with cream cheese and jam but those get a bit messier.
