I don't know

I have to thank my mom (a.k.a. "her majesty") for this Parent Club tip.

She was hanging out with the kids - when Thing 2 said "I'm hungry". Grandma said "well, what would you like?" As usual, Thing 2 responded "I don't know" (see, for some reason my kids think that the kitchen menu changes - and because of that they don't actually SAY what they want - by chance there might be a newer, better or sweeter option available - why they do this I don't know - because the kitchen menu is always the same - I'm OCD that way)

So Grandma (in her genius) - responded with this:

"Would you like your 'I don't know' with butter? Or would you like an 'I don't know' with chocolate?"

This went into brainstorming about what 'I don't knows' go with chocolate...(turned out to be apple slices - with melted chocolate)

I would have rolled my eyes at 'I don't know' but leave it to Grandma to make it into a smart game with problem solving.

I too would have rolled my eyes. At our house, we've created a snack cupboard and snack shelf in the fridge - the snack cupboard has stuff like crackers and non-sugary cereal. The snack shelf in the fridge has cut up fruit, cheese sticks and slices and yogurt. When they ask what they can have for a snack, my response is "Whatever you want - go take a look in the snack places and get yourself something"

Then I go eat my secret stash of chocolate.
