Parent Club Updates

I am surrounded by loose strings...the blog needs to be updated, readers need to be updated, and I need to find lost mittens...so today is the day I start tying up all those loose strings.

  1. Blog update. Notice something different? Over there. On the left. The portfolio list is gone. The label list is back. I think, with the upcoming gift season, it's timely to be able to find all those lovely little Parent Club posts on teacher presents and activities to do with kids ideas.

Parent Club started off as a living portfolio of my work but, thankfully, the portfolio has grown to a size where it deserves its own room. As such, over there - on the right - you will see a link for those Interested in my writing portfolio? - click HERE .

  2. Reader update. Several parents have asked me about how Strike Three - You're OUT turned out. Thing 2 attended the BFF birthday par-tay. As my prince charming put it...Thing 2 is NOT a bad child. Not a mean child. Thing 2 simply acts before thinking (as apparently prince charming did when he was a child). In the post, I called it "blackmailing" but looking back -it was parenting.

  3. Lost mitten update. We have so far, lost two complete pairs of very warm mittens. I have used Stuck On You labels but they are still M.I.A. Thing 1 and Thing 2 are resistant to mitten clips (they are for babies apparently). Strings are a choking hazard. Obviously putting them in pockets don't work. Poor little kittens who have lost their mittens...Anyone? Anyone? How do you retain mittens?!

I had a devastated child last year when he lost his favorite pair of mittens. Nana went to school to root trhough the lost and found and came home with a pair of similar mittens but not his mittens. I tried desperately to find a new pair of mittens of the correct type - hot paws, long cuff with zipper to go up over coat sleeve to prevent snow invading wrist area...do you htink I could find ANY once the winter season had started! No! So this year I was smart, each child now has 3 pairs of hot paws long cuff zipper mittens, this way we have to loose 4 whole pairs before anyone has no mittens to wear, and the big secret...they only know about two pairs each...so there is one backup pair in the closet in case all are lost! There is no way to protect the mittens, just like there is no way no to lose socks in the dryer. The only thing you can do is prepare for the inevitability of lost mittens! Oh yes I also bought each child 2 pais of hotpaws gloves...what's that you say spending upwards of $70 on mitts is crazy??? Not when you have to get to daycare on time to get yourself back to the train and don't have time to search and search for mittens!!

I try to use the gloves when we are just going somewhere that does not invovle snow play like the mall or a b-day party, that way if they are lost they still have the good snow mitts for another day or two at least!!

ooohh...that's smart Karen!

I pick up several pairs of polar fleece dollar store mittens and leave them in the car for car rides. Because now with no mitten clips -- someone has already forgotten their mits!

I did go out and buy some back-up "snow" mittens -- but I'm really trying to save them for Christmas stocking stuffers.

Where did you buy the hot paws long cuff zipper mitts? I would love to buy some for my twin 2 year old boys who hate putting on their mitts right now. Please let me know if you get a chance.
Thanks Wendy

Hi Wendy,
Got the hot paws mits at Walmart (ugh...hate Walmart) - but they had the mittens.

Thank you for getting back to me so quickly. I will check out a couple of Walmarts around me in Toronto. Are you from Toronto (Canada) area or did you buy them from a US Walmart.

Thanks again.
Wendy
