This morning - when I told Thing 1 that one does not wear shorts in October (and go put on some jeans thank you very much) I was hit with:

"why don't you just give me some freedom for once in my life?..."

Not even close to the teen years and I'm hit with that zinger!

I wanted to make sure that he understood why I had bought it for him so I carefully explained it and asked him if he understood. He nodded then looked at me for a long time before he said "And why have you got an ice-cream mummy?"

Which is why when mommy went to the potty yesterday I was faced with a very cute little boy sitting on the stool in front of me, asking me if I was all done, then high 5'ing me and saying "good boy mommy!!"

So I'm watching her little face processing this and she is thinking pretty hard so I know a doozy is on it's way. She comes back a few minutes later and asks "mommy I know shut up is not nice, is shut DOWN ok to say?" To which I reply that yes, shut down is different and ok to say. So she turned around and told her brother to shut down...LOL And the explanation had to start all over again
