Parental ADD

I would like to bring to attention a disorder which is sweeping our nation - ahem - our continent - ahem - the global village. Serious serious stuff.

Parental Attention Deficit Disorder (PADD): characterized primarily by inattention, easy distractibility, disorganization, procrastination, forgetfulness suffered by parents. There is no known cure.

It is often misdiagnosed as "Mommy, you aren't listening to me" and "Are you on your blackberry AGAIN?"

Symptoms include:
  • often flipping television channels
  • has trouble playing tea party or lego for long periods
  • often checks Facebook and Tweetdeck
  • easily distracted from switching laundry loads
  • often forgetful of to-do items (like mailing letters)
  • Often avoids, dislikes, or doesn't want match socks

    Treatment:
Though there is no known cure, studies indicate certain treatments help with symptoms. For example: gifts of chocolate cake and kids going to bed early without fuss.

Do you suffer from Parenetal ADD? Please know you are not alone.

Parent Club Profiles: Ariane Griffiths | Foundation Studio

    Name please...

    Ariane Griffiths

    Organization name?

    Foundation Studio Marketing & Promotions

Are you work at home? or Work in the world?

I work AT home, but DO work all over the world!

What's your specialty? (work-wise - you're probably pretty special at a lot of things)

My specialty work wise is creating unique websites for AWESOME clients like interior decorators, real estate brokers, architects and life coaches (to name a few!)

    Best thing about your work:

My schedule is mine to create and I can take part in a school trip without having to ask the boss! :D

    Parent or not a parent?

Parent to two wonderful children, girl (9) and boy (5)

Share a typical Tuesday (really we want to hear how you "do it all")

My typical Tuesday begins at 7am, feed the kids and then take them both to school at 8. I come back home, take out dinner and then go to the basement to my home office where I go through my emails and answer any emergencies. I draft my day’s task list and then I go through the networks I belong to and participate for about an hour.. I work until 2:30 and then I go and pick up the kids from school. We come home they get a snack and I keep working until 4:30 when my hubby comes home. I then have two choices, if there is a project that I am in the middle of, I finish that if I have finished a project up to a satisfactory point, I call it quits for the day and then become the cook, house cleaner and story book reader. The kids go to bed at 8:30 and then I usually lie in bed and watch some tv or go back to work for an hour or two (depending how hectic the day was). That’s about it!

    Do you blog? (include addy)

Not really, I help my clients blog by giving them beautifully designed blogs.. I do have a blog-based newsletter for my business but its not updated very regularly. I am currently in the midst of launching a small business blog called “The Small Business Cheerleader” and it is at http://bizcheerleader.com/

Do you tweet? (include twitter name)

Yes I do, I took a small hiatus while I was in school but now am back! My twitter name is fdnstudio :D

Link to a post/portfolio piece you think shows your most supreme skills:

I was introduced to such great tools while studying web development that it’s hard to choose, BUT I love this page – it is a part of my final assignment at school. If you click on the paint splatter icons, all of my works fall into specified categories http://www.fdntest.com/ariane/portfolio.php - It might not be the greatest feat, but I think its funky.. and the page also shows off my best pieces...

    Wallflower or social butterfly?

Social butterfly – I love meeting new people, partying and having fun with them.

Name 3 people you would like to meet-in-person at #Blissdom Canada?

    1. Caroline Fernandez – http://www.twitter.com/ParentClub

    2. Alli Worthington - http://www.twitter.com/AlliWorthington

    3. Catherine Connors - http://www.twitter.com/herbadmother

Parent Club is proud to be sponsored by Foundation Studios to #BlissdomCanada2010.

    Parent Club Review: Leapster Explorer

    THE WHAT: Leapster Explorer™

THE HOW: From e-books to videos, spelling to music build school skills, creativity skills and life skills! This is personalized learning at your child's own pace: create a learning path for your child, auto-leveling adjust, customizable games and more.

THE WHY: You don't have to be a 'gaming family' to get that hand-held video games are kid-travel-friendly! Whether in a plane, train or car seat they entertain and engage kids - the BONUS with LeapFrog products is that parents know they are also educational.

From personal Leapster experience, I like the fact that I can find video games in French and English for my kids. It makes screen time - language time in our house.

It's helpful that the Leapster Explorer takes AA batteries (though I would love it more if it was rechargeable with a USB port - perhaps the next generation?).

The explorer is suited for kids aged 4-9 years old and builds on learning through games, e-books, videos and more.

Do you have a LeapFrog favourite? (comment below!)

  • Breaking Parent Club news

This is a repeat notice of that little box over there on the right hand side of your screen (but as a parent - I feel obliged to say things more than once - it's a habit and survival skill - i.e. "dinner's ready" "dinner's READY!"...see what I mean?!).

So de Breaking Parent Club news is that we've switched over to our own domain name (bye bye blogspot). Though we've "owned" the domain for a few years - quiet honestly it scared the bacon out of me to switch it over - would it be site armageddon? would all be lost?

However, we needed the change (everything GROWS) and thus...we are now officially www.parentclub.ca. (cue the balloons and happy music).

What this means for you: if you have the blogspot address as your favourite/bookmark you will be automatically redirected each time. However, you can simply favourite/bookmark www.parentclub.ca and surf directly to us.

(Due to the change the google spiders have lost parentclub.ca :-( however if you search www.parentclub.ca you'll find us. Those spiders will catch up eventually).
