The Waiting Game



Parent Club tip: To make shopping a bit nicer - I plan the children's snack time to coincide with shopping. Of course, they are a bit grumpy getting into the cart as they are hungry. But once the cheerios, fruit slices or homemade muffin is in their hand they are content to munch while I browse the cheese section.

Quiet Time



Parent Club tip; re-introduce quiet time into the schedule - even for school aged kids. The cold weather, the hectic holidays, the change in routine -- tires everyone out. Choose your arsenic hour (4pm here) and turn on a movie to entertain and relax the children.

Take this time to step away from the kids (if they are old enough to be in sight but not on your lap) and do something for yourself. Read, prepare a portion of dinner, have a cup of tea...do something to rejunvinate or move your day along. You all need this break!

Remember the Milk


Is this your year to get organized? Parent Club is dedicated to making life a bit easier and as such we're starting a new series of web tools available (Free) to make family life more organized.

The first website you should know about is Remember the Milk. This is a good electronic tool for list lovers and reminding. You can set up grocery lists, to do lists, errand lists and have them sent to your computer's electronic calendar (it also supports SMS, e-mail, instant messengers; AIM, Google talk, MSN, Yahoo & Skype).

You can sign up your partner/spouse and deligate and share the lists with them.

There is also a task locator where you can map out your tasks; where they are located, what is nearby.

A good parent tip; each time you go to an indoor playground, a tourist attractions or a birthday party venue be sure to pick up their brochure or business card.

Then, create a kid's resource book (I keep mine with my cookbooks in the kitchen) and include the fun destination information in the resource book.

It makes life a lot easier when you need to call a place to find out drop-in hours. It also makes the decision of where to go for an afternoon a bit more interesting.
