Losing the Cooking Touch

Maybe it's because I'm pregnant and hormonally things are off. Maybe I've hit a bad streak. Whatever it is...I can no longer cook. And it is turning out badly for the kids.

Take the turkey casserole I made earlier this month (someone should have taken it...straight to the garbage...admittedly it was awful). What do you do if you make an awful dinner? Make another one on the spot giving the kids the expectation that Mom will cook something else? Make them eat it* (the casserole wasn't lovely but it wouldn't have killed them either).

Then, there was the homemade Spanakopita (which actually tasted pretty great)...but Thing 1 refused, REFUSED, to try it. (The rule in the house is you need to try - if you don't like it after that - I respect your taste - but at least try it). So since we all knew the rule, there was no big fight. But there were silent tears. An hour and a half of Thing 1's silent tears...sitting alone at the table...putting off trying the spanakopita**. This was not a lovely dinner.

Yesterday (oh - Happy Canada Day by the way). Thing 1 and I made homemade strawberry jam (click on that link for my yummy mummy club article on tips for strawberry picking). One batch turned out beautifully - the second batch is runs like Niagara Falls. See, no touch for cooking...

I'm thinking when one is in a cooking rut...perhaps the most human thing for all at the table is to just order pizza.

*I made them eat a bit. Then made toast. Guilty of being a short-order-cook.
**Did finally try it. A full bite. Didn't like it. Made toast. #Fail

Parent Club Review: Tommee Tippee

THE WHAT tommee tippee is an internationally renowned manufacturer of great value baby products including baby feeding bottles & breast pumps.

THE WHERE: available for purchase now at toysrus.ca (click on that link to see product line)
THE REVIEW: As you know, I am expecting, so the invitation to the tommee tippee Canadian launch was timely. (First off ->2 keywords; BPA-free and Phthalate-compliant). These products are designed to be simple, easy, practical and intuitive.

Nipples for bottles and sippy cups are require no more force than to drink from a breast, making switch from breast to bottle that much easier.

They have an anti-colic system for their bottles which make a more comfortable eating experience for babies with tummy trouble.

The trainer cups, sippy cups, water bottles are truly spill-proof (aside: at the launch everyone - EVERYONE - drank out of sippy cups - how's that for experiential learning? I tell you - my cranberry juice did NOT spill or drip!)

And my fav.? The food pots - which are great for taking kids' snacks on the go (and I hear they make great vinaigrette containers for when Papa takes his salad to work!).
