Parent Club Profiles: Tamara McPherson | WonderMoms.ca

Name please.

Tamara McPherson

Organization Name?

WonderMoms.ca

What's your specialty? (work-wise - you're probably pretty special at a lot of things)

I am a computer geek and a real wired woman. I ubber proud that I created my website with minimal technical support. I love learning about technology and excited about the coming years of what it will bring us.

What's your shameless plug? (books, blogs, bling, etc.)

My shameless plug would be that you have to visit the WonderMoms community, be are pretty large. Starting at our website WonderMoms.ca plus our WonderMoms Forum with 1000 registered Moms, than check out our Twitter page with 3400 followers and lastly we have a Facebook Profile/ Fanpage.

Best thing about your work:

I control my hours and I am my own boss, even though I am a workoholic. I love networking with so many fabulous people, companies and brands. We are enjoying every minute of it. Each week we have new challenges and exciting experiences that improves the brand and shows our true reach in the Social Media world.

Parent or not a parent?

I am a very busy Parent, very proud Mama of four girls. They are growing and blossoming into wonderful members of our community, They watch their Mama (me) work a lot and give back to the community and tell me how proud they are of me each week. I am blessed to be their role model.

Share a typical Tuesday (really we want to hear how you "do it all")

Tuesday’s are my “work” days as all the kids are at school, I usually book meetings those days. It allows me the freedom to attend events as well. A Typical Tuesday, is a mad dash off to school with my hair in a pony and wearing my lulu gear. Sunglasses hide my bags under my eyes from being up late the night before working on the computer.

Come home and do the housework, typical Mom stuff….than I fire up my Tassimo and get to work on the computer answering emails and uploading contests and or content on my site. Typically I work all day until 2:30 pm and pick up the kids and back in Mommy mode.

Dinner is somehow made, homework and lunches…bath, stories and sweet bedtime. This is when I get back to work on the computer. Really not a glamorous life is it?

Do you blog?

I have my website and mostly people blog for us, but yes I do blog as I want our readers to learn about me, the voice behind WonderMoms. I do really need to write more, A) time B ) time …… see the pattern.

Do you tweet?

Do I have to really answer this – as of today I have tweeted 24, 143 times. (yep I tweet) Honestly I love twitter. It has increased our Social Media presence and also I have meet so many people IRL that have the same in common with me.

I tweet in bed, I tweet in the car (not driving) I tweet on the couch, I am addicted.

Link to a post/portfolio piece you think shows your most supreme skills:

This is our WonderMoms interviews, I started my first interview with Erica Ehm and worked our way through other fabulous Moms. This latest interview I have grown as I interviewer and more confident. Thank you to Opti-Mom.ca and Mr OptiMom guiding me along.

Wallflower or social butterfly?

Growing up I was a wallflower, now I am a butterfly as I love to socialize. You really need to have strong social skills when networking. I remember going to an after hours Chamber event and thought I would not know anyone. I was dead wrong, it was the best night I had for networking.

Name 3 people you would like to meet-in-person at #Blissdom Canada?

I am so looking forward to Blissdom and would love to meet

  • Jen @littlemissmocha I love her tweets and flare for writing, she seems smart, sassy and a real authentic

  • @phdinparenting she is very passionate and amazing philosophy on parenting

  • Caitlin from @mablehood – we have been mailing each other for months and chatted plenty on twitter, love to meet the voice behind Mabel’s Label Social Media.

Giveaway for 2 Tassimo Brewing Machines

It was a year ago that I received a Tassimo brewing system...and this is not a shameless plug...it is used everyday chez moi. Every. Day. Sometimes 2x a day. Sometimes more.

Kids make expresso for guests. I make hot chocolate. Those who are caffeine-challenged can have decaf. (The only beverage not-loved is the Tea Chai Latte - Tassimo could you please make an Orange Pekoe Tea disk? Pretty please?).

So in celebration of my Tassimo-anniversary (tassaversary?) I've been offered to give away 2 Tassimo brewing machines to my social networked friends.

So who wants an amazing (and this is my honest opinion - it's AMAZING) brewing machine?...tell me...could be yours...

GIVEAWAY NOW CLOSED - THANKS TO ALL WHO ENTERED - WINNERS HAVE BEEN NOTIFIED

Not everyone gets an invitation: She's Connected & birthday parties

If you aren't into social media - keep reading anyway - because I'd love to hear your comments about how we live in a world where not every kid is invited...

This past weekend twitter was all a-twitter about the upcoming She's Connected Conference (a conference "connecting with 100 of Canada’s most influential women in a one day event" - for transparency - yes, I was invited).

The issue: there was a limit for 100 attendees. Digital peeps had to apply with their stats on connectiveness (# of twitter followers, blogs, websites, etc).

Popular digital lady - Cocktail Deeva wrote a post (which I agree with)about the conference and not feeling bad about attending (give it a read).

Brands are looking to get their message out to the greatest number of people. If you had the choice between someone who has two readers Vs. two thousand - wouldn't you want the one with two thousand?

We live in a world where not everyone gets an invitation. It's a fact of life.

Thing 2 is about to celebrate a birthday in 5 days. This year, we decided 2 friends could be invited for a cool outing (I'll share that experience next week). Only 2 friends. (budget limitations + I'm really, significantly pregnant and don't feel up to hosting a gaggle of screaming kids chez moi).

Apparently, only 2 invitations caused drama amongst the 'usual invitees'. Such drama - that the teacher had to have a sit down with the class and discuss the fact that not everyone gets an invitation - and that's OK.

Now, let's think of the She's Connected drama - grown-ups were getting upset because they weren't invited. Same issue. Different age.

ASIDE:

Just because you aren't going to something doesn't mean you should call "UNFAIR" - get creative and act. For example:

Back in August, another digital lady - Maria, (amotherworld) was creative and hosted a twitter #NotGoingToBlogHer party because she (and many others - including moi) weren't attending BlogHer.

And upcoming, is Blissdom Canada (and again, for transparency - I am attending - thanks to sponsorship from Foundation Studio). Many aren't attending that event either - but are arranging to join in after-parties instead.

...those 10 year olds could call and have a separate play date with the birthday kid...those grown ups can have an #NotGoing event on their own.

Not every kid gets an invitation - it's a fact of life. Is this a teachable moment or a reason to make waves?
