Parent Club tip:

We are slowly, ever so slowly, moving into spring and warmer weather. Here's a closet tip from the Parent Club...

Wash those gently used winter jackets and pass them on to family, friends or a family shelter (in the GTA try: Red Door Shelter, East End Children's Centre)

Click here for a comprehensive (yet unchecked by Parent Club - because we're busy doing laundry and caring for kids and stuff) list of places to donate your gently used clothes, art supplies, household items and more.

It's good karma to hand me down.

Besides often speaking in rhyme, Yogi Bear is well-known for a variety of different catchphrases, including his pet name for picnic baskets ("pic-a-nic baskets") and his favorite self-promotion ("I'm smarter than the average bear!")

Congratulations Fokxxy!

Take 5 Challenge - Clover Leaf - Part 2

Switching the Take 5 Challenge was a bit of a gem. The kids LOVE cooking. And I LOVE MORE not making lunch. So basically, we had a "Bring it" type of activity here. The kids had free range to choose whichever 5 ingredients they wanted (and surprisingly they kept it healthy). Here are the Take 5's from the 7 year old...
And here is what was created...
Can I quote you on that? "It's a happy face" Flavour: Must have been good - it was all eaten.

Presentation: Looked like a face to me How fast did it take? under 3 minutes. Judge bio: a tired Mom, nursing a fussy baby, while kids made their own lunch. Here are the Take 5's from the 10 year old...

And here is what was created...

Can I quote you on that? "It's a baby bassinet" Flavour: According to picky eater - it tasted yummy

Presentation: fairly fantabulous I think How fast did it take? under 4 minutes. Judge bio: see above

The winner of this Take 5 Challenge:

✓The kids got entertainment, activity and really enjoyed eating.

✓Mom didn't have to make a meal and actually didn't have to coach anyone to eat. ✰I think we can declare it a good tie!

5 Minute Challenge - Clover Leaf - Part 1

We were recently approached to participate in the 5 Minute Challenge from Clover Leaf (and disclosure: we do actually use Clover Leaf as our go-to tuna for school lunch so this challenge was right up our alley...or river...since...you know...it's fish.)

And bonus points to Clover Leaf: they are donating 555 cans of tuna to local food banks in tandem with this challenge (woot woot for social good!)

So we received a basketful of Clover Leaf products as well as some recipes and were challenged to take 5 ingredients and make a full recipe in 5 minutes.

Doable for a busy family? We let the kids judge...

Take 5 Salsa Tuna Roll-Ups

Can I quote you on that? "Can we change the green onions to something else?"

Flavour: uh-uhn. I don't like it. well, seems ok.

Presentation: looked ok

How fast was it? three and a half minutes

Judge bio: a very picky 10 year old who doesn't like foods to touch.

Take 5 Montuna Cristo

Can I quote you on that?: "I think this is yummy"

Flavour: I like it. A lot.

Presentation: Looks like French toast with tuna inside.

How fast was it?: 5 minutes.

Judge bio: An 8 year old who is willing to give anything a try.

So a near-miss and a hit. Does that this a challenge make?! I think NOT. So the next day I did a challenge switch-up. Kids YOU take 5 ingredients and make lunch and I'll be the judge...

Tune into the next post for the recipes the kids made (really very cool actually) and deets how one lucky Parent Club reader will be getting their own Take 5 takeaway!
