Parenting

Helicopter Parents: These parents "hover" around their children at all times. These parents rush to prevent any harm or failure from befalling them and will not let them learn from their own mistakes, sometimes even contrary to the children's wishes.

Black Hawk Parents: The extreme of helicopter parenting; these parents use stealth and cunning to get want they want for their children. Example; writing child's book reports so they will get higher marks.

Lawnmower or Snowplow Parent: Parents who want to mow down or push aside any obstacles that may get in the path of their child. These parents continue through high school and part time jobs...clearing the path and making life easier for their children.

Paternity Leave - in real life

Here is my question: In the real world - is paternity leave valued?

It's a great thing for a Dad to have the opportunity to share early parenting (maybe given the chance Ward Cleaver would have opted to stay at home with Beaver - who knows?!) Modern Dads take the opportunity to be hands-on and the marketing world loves them for it. Diaper Dude for example, is a manly, attractive and functional diaper bag. Heck, I'd use one. The Peg Perego Venezia SNG stroller has a handle bar that can be extended to suit the height of Dads (well, and tall moms too).

All this marketing aside, has the business world embraced paternity leave? I wonder. Someone I know (yes, you) stated that men - in the corporate world - aren't taken seriously if the opt for paternity leave. Perhaps they are supported now - but down the road - a lengthy leave might impact job promotions. They might not be seen as driven, ambitious, dedicated. ok - you didn't say that last part - that's me...thinking.

Paternity leave has hit the kid gear shelves and the marketing world. I wonder, in real life, has it hit home?

SuperMom

Did you get a chance to read; "Supermoms' work never done: Women retain homemaker role as work responsibilities grow: Study" in Metro? If you didn't - Parent Club recommends you click on the link and read this article.

A survey (questioning parents from 13 countries which included; Canada, China, Russia, France, U.S. and U.K.) presents that Moms, who work outside the home, pack 27 hours' of activity into their day. Yes, we all know there are only 24 hours in a day. However, the study found; Moms are returning from their "day" paid jobs to evenings and weekends of family responsibilities which stretch their schedules past the limits.

Dads aren't to blame as the study also proved that many Papas are spending more time with their children then their own fathers did with them.

I have an interesting question about paternity leave...check back with Parent Club this week!
