Parent Club Giveaway: Energy Basket

The Ontario Power Authority, WWF-Canada and a major loyalty program have launched a campaign which provides Ontarians with a way to continue the momentum of Earth Hour by pledging to take simple actions that will have lasting financial rewards and help fight climate change.

One example action is reducing "phantom power" - the electricity used by electronics and appliances even when they're switched off - an unknown problem that accounts for as much as 15% of a home's monthly energy use!

Parent Club has TWO gift baskets (worth approx $250 each) to giveaway to help save energy in your house.

Each gift basket contains:
  • A power bar with automatic shutoff to reduce phantom power
  • 1,000 Bonus Air Miles (this could get $140 in grocery gift certificates, movie tickets or even a 3 piece luggage set)
  • A cute & cuddly toy panda from WWF-Canada
  • Cold water laundry detergent

TO ENTER:
Write a comment (below) on an action you do in your house to help save energy thus fighting climate change.

THE RULES (because life has rules)
  • Ontario entries only (sorry rest-of-the-world-friends)
  • One entry per day
  • Tweet the giveaway (and comment you did so) = an extra entry

    Open Letter to Tim Hortons

    Dear Tim Hortons,

    Just between us...thank you.

Thank you for inventing the Timbits (which was both an activity and a snack for my 2 kids during our two hour non-moving line up to cross the Canada/U.S. border this past weekend - your Timbits made the trip a little nicer).

Thank you for never asking if I "want fries with that?" (because I don't - also thank you for not offering to supersize anything - the world is supersized enough).

Thank you for offer healthy choices of sandwiches, bagels, chili and soup (because it teaches my kids that fast food doesn't have to be crap food).

Thank you for sponsoring kids' hockey and summer camp (because it shows me it's not all about you and quarterly profits).

Thank you for not offering a treasure box nor toy with each meal (because I don't need anymore plastic from China in my backseat).

Thank you for donuts. And coffee. And steeped tea. (And I'm sure parents everywhere thank you too).

Thank you for being our little piece of home on every road trip across Ontario.

Thank you for being (and staying) Canadian.

Thank you for being on a military base in Kandahar, Afghanistan (because I'm sure Canadian soliders are appreciating their own little piece of home).

You are my go-to and I thank you for that.

    From,

    Me

*This is not sponsored or pitched. I truly heart Timmies.

    Happy Birthday Little One.

Today is my baby's birthday. 7 years old and still and always my baby. The child whose picture I took, only days old, and used as my 1st book cover.

The child who could projectile vomit -> across the room and up the wall. The child who was always so attached. The child who is all passion and no thinking beyond the moment. The child who consistently frustrates and entertains us.

It all makes you who you are. And you are ever growing. Ever changing. Even though you are 7 - you will always be my baby. Happy Birthday Thing 2.
