Dad's Day - This Sunday

Free Clipart

The Dad in my house gave up watching a Euro Cup game over the weekend. Why? Because Thing 1 and Thing 2 wanted to go to the community environment day (they remembered the face painting from last year). So he pulled a wagon and made a memory with his kids instead of cheering (well, in our case, - yelling -) at the players on TV.

Thank you Papa.

I was reminded (by that Papa) that a short time ago; Parent Club was offered to review TiVo (digital-video recorders (DVRs) - for the non-tech parents; TiVo allows you to record TV...(like soccer games)...and watch your recorded show on your schedule (like after the kids come home from face painting). I turned down the offer because I didn't have the parent time for TiVo -- forgetting that the other parent in the house may appreciate watching his shows on his schedule.

The folks at TiVo did a tv viewing poll to see what Dads are secretly watching when they have TV time;

Dancing With the Stars – 33%
Grey’s Anatomy – 24%
Desperate Housewives – 22%

hmm, not soccer games?! I bet the Dads who are watching Dancing With The Stars are sharing the couch with the kids. Modern Dad wants to be engaged in his kids' lives. Not cheering from the sidelines. Not staying home to watch the game (well, as long as it isn't' the quarter finals, semi finals or plain ol' finals).

Kidzilla

Come to my house at 4 o'clock - any day of the week - and you will see a real - live - kidzilla in captivity. This creature growls and groans. Stomps and stampedes. It's a nasty beast.

As much as you can trust spam being in your inbox, you can trust that every day at 4pm my child becomes kidzilla. One experienced parent called this time "arsenic hour" where the kids blow off steam from their busy days. Perhaps it's a sugar low. Whatever it is - I really don't like it.

I've tried listening. I've tried being patient. I've tried ignoring. I've tried being mad and sending kidzilla to the corner (I sometimes think we should just move her bed to the corner and accept the fact she will, most likely, live in the corner). I've tried having a special sweet treat waiting for her at 4pm. I've tried and tried...

Thankfully, 4pm turns into 5pm. By 6pm - behold - my child has returned; smiling, sharing, and lovely. I am still amazed that everyday at the same darn time Child B transforms into kidzilla. I could set my watch to it.

Funnily, qualities like agressiveness and determination in the toddler world gains the title; kidzilla. The same qualities as a grown up gains the title; CEO.

Parent Club Review: Sancutary Song

As soon as we were seated, we were welcomed by a host who proceeded to speak with my child about opera, about how the story was told in the song and also what the story would be about.

There is a sense of intimacy in the theatre, and this is maintained throughout the performance and during the Q & A after.

The opera itself was beautifully sung, and the orchestra was absolutely amazing.

The story itself though, was too difficult for my 7 year old to follow. The costumes and set are minimal and it took her a few minutes to initially figure out that the performer represented an elephant.

Despite seeming better suited for a +7 year old audience, we had a lovely afternoon.

The folks at Splenda and Matchstick wanted to share with the Club; they are continuing the Splenda trial for women in the Toronto area. They are looking for 10 families to enjoy this no-strings-attached 2 week trial.

Click this link to go to the Splenda Prequalification Survey. If you qualify, you'll recieve a quick phone call to get your mailing address (from someone at Matchstick the company which is coordinating this challenge). Simple and REALLY no-strings.

All you have to do is try Splenda and then give them your opinion. LOVE Mom-marketing?...
